RESCUE & REHABILITATION
OFFERING EMERGENCY SUPPORT TO AT-RISK CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE, AND FAMILIES IN CRISIS.
RESCUE & REHABILITATION
On average a quarter of all families in Guatemala and Latin America live in extreme poverty making families frequently unable to afford to sustain a healthy and safe lifestyle. Many families are growing up with limited access to electricity, running water, and sanitation.
As a result, many children and young people find themselves living on the streets. Whether they choose to leave home because of ongoing violent abuse, are targeted for grooming by gang circles, are sold for sex or are abandoned on the streets by their parents, these children, young people and their families need urgent and informed care and attention.
Nicodemus rescues young people who have been overlooked and are living on the fringes of society in poverty-hit communities or even find themselves homeless and living on the streets.
23% of the population live in extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1/day

PROTECTION HOMES
Nicodemus supports a children’s protection home providing vulnerable children with a safe home, schooling, spiritual and psychological care, and development of social skills. On progression to an on-site Transition House, we provide older teenagers with services through our Youth Mentoring Programme. These services facilitate preparation for each young person as they leave the protection home and move back to their family or to independent living with the continued support of their mentor.
CRISIS SUPPORT
We respond to critical needs and help provide a safe route for young people to leave street living and join our Youth Mentoring Programme by building trusting relationships through:
> First-aid care on the streets
> Providing warm meals for the homeless
> Working in collaboration with drug rehabilitation homes
> Administering funeral arrangements for the street living population
